The story of Darkshore.
Darkshore is a long, misty strip of forest and beach along Kalimdor's north-western coast, named for the grey fog that so often hides it. The night elves never settled it thickly, and the ruins along its cliffs are older than their memories like to admit. Ten thousand years ago, the twin cities of Ameth'Aran and Bashal'Aran were ruled by Athrikus Narassin, who bound his own people's souls into gems to power his magic. Their ghosts still walk the ruins.
After the Third War, the archdruid Fandral Staghelm led the druids here to plant Teldrassil, the new World Tree, just off the coast, and the harbour town of Auberdine became the night elves' only lasting foothold on the shore. It is the port where ships come in from Teldrassil and from the human lands across the sea.
Darkshore is sick. A corruption has crept through the forest and its creatures; the deer have fallen ill, and the druids traced part of the blight to the polluted waters of Cliffspring Falls. The Blackwood furbolgs, once peaceful neighbours, have turned savage. Murlocs and naga have taken over the beaches and the drowned ruins, and in the south, the strange blade known as the Master's Glaive rises out of the earth, drawing things that are better left alone.
