Download the addon (version 0.2.15, 38 KB zip)

1. Open the zip. It holds two folders, NeedBeforeGreed and NeedBeforeGreed_Data.
2. Copy both into your game’s Interface\AddOns folder, for each game you play: for the WoW: Forever beta, World of Warcraft\_classic_beta_\Interface\AddOns; for Retail, World of Warcraft\_retail_\Interface\AddOns. Create Interface\AddOns if it isn’t there.
3. In game, check it’s ticked under AddOns at character select. Type /nbg to open its panel.

1. Run the downloaded file. Nothing needs installing.
2. It explains what it uploads and asks about each part: your fights; the quests, loot, vendors and recipes you see; and sharing auction house prices (with your realm’s name). Say yes to any of them.
3. It asks whether to start with Windows. If you say yes, it sleeps until WoW is running, so you never have to think about it.
4. It then lives in the notification area by the clock: the dice-and-coins icon. Right-click it for your fight history, its log, notifications, starting with Windows, sharing auction prices, and Quit.
5. It keeps itself and the addon up to date. While WoW isn’t running it checks this site’s downloads every few hours, installs a new addon into each game folder that has it, and replaces and restarts itself, checking every file against its published SHA-256 first. Untick “Update automatically” in its menu to be asked first; “Check for updates now” installs straight away (after you close WoW, if it’s running). Companion 0.2.2 and earlier can’t update: download it once more.
