The story of Silverpine Forest.
Silverpine Forest is a gloomy pine forest along the coast south of Tirisfal Glades, the land between the Forsaken's capital and the sealed kingdom of Gilneas. It was once looked after by Gilneas, but when that kingdom shut itself away behind the Greymane Wall after the Second War, Silverpine was left without anyone to care for it, and darker things moved in.
The worst of them came out of Shadowfang Keep. During the Third War, at King Genn Greymane's request, the Dalaran archmage Arugal summoned worgen, savage wolf-men, out of the Emerald Dream to fight the Scourge. They could not be controlled, and their curse began to spread. Arugal, broken by what he had done, shut himself away in Shadowfang Keep with his worgen, and the curse has crept through the forest ever since; in Pyrewood Village, the villagers live ordinary lives by day and something else by night.
The Forsaken have claimed the forest as part of their lands and watch it from the Sepulcher. Their Deathstalkers scout for the Scourge and for worse, and the Royal Apothecary Society collects samples from the sick wildlife for purposes of its own. They have plenty of enemies here: Arugal's worgen, the Rot Hide gnolls, the Ravenclaw undead of Fenris Isle, and the human mages of Dalaran who have dug in at Ambermill.
