The story of Wetlands.
The Wetlands are a cold, misty country of marsh, bog and ruined dwarven forts between Dun Morogh and the Arathi Highlands, the land bridge that joins the dwarves' realm of Khaz Modan to the old human kingdoms of the north. Murlocs crowd its coasts, bog beasts and oozes wallow in its fens, and shipwrecks lie along its shore.
Its history is a history of war. During the Second War, Orgrim Doomhammer's Horde built its invasion fleet on an island in Baradin Bay, and the Dragonmaw clan made the dwarven fortress of Grim Batol their own, holding the Dragon Queen Alexstrasza captive there and breeding her children as war mounts. When the red dragons were freed, they fell on the Dragonmaw, and they still guard Grim Batol so that no one can enter it. The surviving Dragonmaw orcs have scattered into the hills and push toward Dun Algaz, threatening the road to Loch Modan.
After the war, the Alliance rebuilt the Horde's old shipyard as Menethil Harbor, named for King Terenas Menethil of Lordaeron, and it is now the Alliance's port in the north, with boats to Darkshore and Theramore. To the north, the Dark Iron dwarves led by the warlock Balgaras have taken southern Dun Modr and wrecked the great Thandol Span, the bridge to Arathi. Dwarven digs dot the land too, and in WoW: Forever one of them, Whelgar's Excavation Site, has uncovered something deep enough to become a dungeon of its own.
