The story of The Hinterlands.
The Hinterlands are wild, forested highlands in the north-east of the Eastern Kingdoms, beyond the Arathi Highlands, where the ruins of an ancient troll empire lie half-buried under the trees. This was the heart of the Amani, the forest trolls who once ruled these lands and fought the elves and humans in the Troll Wars thousands of years ago.
The trolls are still here, divided and bitter. The Vilebranch, the strongest tribe, hold the great temple city of Jintha'Alor and the Altar of Zul. The Witherbark live among the old temples of Shadra'Alor and the ruins of Hiri'watha. The weakest and once-wandering tribe, the Revantusk, found an unexpected friend after the Third War: the new Horde helped them build Revantusk Village on the eastern coast, and they have stood with it ever since.
The forests' other masters fly. After the War of the Three Hammers, the Wildhammer dwarves left Grim Batol and built Aerie Peak in the west of the Hinterlands, on the surface rather than under the mountains. They bonded with the region's gryphons, and in the Second War their riders, led by Thane Kurdran Wildhammer, harried the Horde from the sky with their storm hammers. In the north stands Seradane, one of the four great trees that lead into the Emerald Dream, where a green dragon touched by the Nightmare has emerged to menace the land.
