The story of Teldrassil.
Teldrassil is the new World Tree of the night elves, a tree so vast that a whole land of forest, lakes and hills grows in its branches, high above the sea off the coast of Darkshore. Its name means "crown of the earth". After the Third War, the night elves had given up their immortality to defeat the Burning Legion at Mount Hyjal, and many of them could not accept it. The archdruid Fandral Staghelm and the druids planted Teldrassil hoping to win it back.
The dragons were not convinced. Nozdormu, the Aspect of time, judged the night elves' wish arrogant and refused to bless the tree, and Teldrassil grew without the Aspects' blessing that the first World Tree had known. Now something is wrong with it. The Gnarlpine furbolgs who live in its forests have gone mad, satyrs have appeared among the trees, and its creatures sicken. At Lake Al'Ameth, the druid Denalan studies the blight, and nobody yet knows what is causing it.
Young night elves begin their lives as adventurers in Shadowglen, at the foot of Aldrassil, before walking out to the village of Dolanaar and on to the capital, Darnassus, in the tree's upper boughs. Far below, at the tree's roots, Rut'theran Village is the harbour where the boats arrive from Auberdine.
