The story of Westfall.
Westfall was once the breadbasket of the Kingdom of Stormwind, a land of golden fields, windmills and farmsteads west of Elwynn Forest. Years of war and neglect changed that. Stormwind's attention turned elsewhere, its soldiers left, and the farms fell empty. When the Defias Brotherhood, the stonemasons cheated out of their pay for rebuilding Stormwind, needed somewhere to hide, they took Westfall for their own.
Under their leader, Edwin VanCleef, the Defias have turned the region into an outlaw country. They burn the farmers' fields and salt the earth so nothing will grow, hire Riverpaw gnolls as their thugs and use stolen harvest golems to drive the remaining farmers out. Beneath the ruined town of Moonbrook lie the abandoned Deadmines, where VanCleef's brotherhood, with goblin engineers among its ranks, is secretly building a great juggernaut to sail against Stormwind itself.
The people of Westfall did not wait for the king to save them. When Stormwind abandoned them, Gryan Stoutmantle founded the People's Militia and made Sentinel Hill, on the road through the middle of the region, their stronghold. From there, with the help of any adventurer willing to fight, they are taking their land back one farm at a time, while Stormwind's spies of SI:7 quietly watch the Brotherhood's towers out on the Dust Plains.
