Story

The story of Searing Gorge.

The Searing Gorge is a black, smoking valley of ash and cinders north of Blackrock Mountain, its sky glowing red and its ground hot underfoot. It may once have been a green valley at the edge of the Redridge Mountains. Then, more than two centuries ago, the Dark Iron Sorcerer-Thane Thaurissan and his followers tried to summon a fire elemental to win the War of the Three Hammers and woke Ragnaros, the Firelord, instead. Blackrock Mountain erupted, the Dark Iron capital was destroyed, and the land to the north was burned into the gorge it is now.

The Dark Irons have made the ruin their own. At the bottom of the valley they have dug the Cauldron, a vast open pit, and under it the Slag Pit, rich in ore, where captured enemies are worked as slaves. Their sentry towers watch the roads and their golems tramp the ash.

Not every Dark Iron serves their emperor. The Thorium Brotherhood, master smiths who broke with the clan, have built their base at Thorium Point on the gorge's northern rim. From there they watch the Cauldron and trade their unmatched craft with anyone, Alliance or Horde, who helps them against their own people.
