The story of Dustwallow Marsh.
Dustwallow Marsh is a wet, grey stretch of swamp and bog on Kalimdor's eastern coast, south of the Barrens. It has seen more than its share of blood. At the end of the Third War, Jaina Proudmoore led the humans who had sailed to Kalimdor to found Theramore Isle here, and her father, Admiral Daelin Proudmoore, followed with the fleet of Kul Tiras to destroy the Horde. Jaina stood aside, Thrall's forces defeated him, and the admiral died in the marsh. Jaina's choice bought an uneasy truce between Theramore and the Horde that still holds, at least officially.
The truce is thin. Theramore's garrison keeps mostly behind its walls, and quiet clashes between Alliance and Horde agents carry on in the swamp. The Horde's own foothold is Brackenwall Village, home of the Stonemaul ogres, who were driven from their old village in the south by black dragonspawn and want revenge.
Those dragons are the marsh's darkest secret. The black dragonflight has claimed the south, the Wyrmbog, and somewhere in its depths lies the lair of Onyxia, daughter of Deathwing. Few who go looking for the brood come back to tell of it. Elsewhere in the marsh, ruins like Witch Hill hide restless dead, and the burned-out Shady Rest Inn on the road to the Barrens holds a mystery of its own.
