The story of Azshara.
Azshara is a haunted, beautiful coast of autumn-red forests and broken marble, the remains of what was once the heart of the night elves' ancient empire. Before the Great Sundering, the Highborne ruled from their capital, Zin-Azshari, under the queen whose name the land still bears. When the Well of Eternity collapsed, the capital was swallowed by the sea, and the cliffs and ruins along this shore are all that is left of that age.
The ruins have not stayed empty. Satyrs, the twisted descendants of Highborne who sold themselves to the Burning Legion, lurk in the old encampments. Along the coast, the Spitelash naga, once night elves themselves, come ashore for the rare enchanted coral that grows in these waters. In the ruins of Eldarath, the blue dragon Azuregos and his dragonspawn stand guard, and rumours say Highborne artifacts still lie buried there.
Few people live here by choice. The Horde keeps a camp at Valormok in the west, and the Alliance holds Talrendis Point near the border with Ashenvale. Both send adventurers out into the ruins, partly for what they might find and partly to keep an eye on whatever is waking among them.
